Uncle Louis is home...

On Saturday morning, i went to Anthea and Anders childcare for the Curriculum orientation. This is for the K2/K1/Nursary classes. For Toddles and playgroup, it will take place this coming Saturday. I must admit this NTUC Childcare is putting in GREAT Effort in communicating all these informations to the parents. It makes me be aware of what the 2A's are learning in the 4 Terms of school.

As for Adrian, his morning session was busied with Servicing the car, renewing road tax, paying bills etcs.

The 2 A's were occupied with the coloring things at home while watching the usual Saturday morning dose of Kids Central - Tom & Jerry, Winx Club, Justeriser etcs.

After the orientation session, i went home and all of them were having their power nap, as it was a very cool afternoon.

UNCLE LOUIS IS HOME... so

dinner was at Hua Ting, Orchard Hotel. As mom has some balance vouchers which are expiring end January 2007, we were lucky to tag-along for this sumptous dinner. We had red wine and durian cake for the entitlement. For our meal, there were Peking duck, Boiled soups, Sweet & sour slice fish, Prawns etcs. The food was really very very good.

Sunday morning is the usal routine for the Aces Family, now that Louis is back for these 2 weeks, anthea is looking forward to swimming at SAFRA MT Faber. She likes this place the most among all the choices.

Adrian and myself attended Ong and Pauline's Baby girl full month luncheon. Her name is Cheryl Ong. As usual, it was a good time catching up with all his buddies and they had planned for Chinese New Year gathering.

Dinner with the family was at Guan Hin. As Louis and Eve has not been there, so dad introduced the place to them. After dinner, we headed to King Albert's Park MacDonald for the children to enjoyed life. Anders is still not fully recovered, so no ice-cream for both of them.

Anders is DOWN...

It's Anders turn...SIGH...

Well, he got the stomach flu. On Wednesday night, he was running mild fever. Siti fed him the paracetemol around 4am. Anders room-in with with Siti. So i am quite lucky, otherwise, it will be another sleepless night for me. Comes May 2007, this priviledge will be gone once Siti 'balek kampong'.

He had diarrhea for the whole day, so in the evening after work, i brought him to the clinic for doctor's consultation. For these 2 days he is being kept at home to rest and Siti said that he is very happy. Siti is very attentive to Anders and really doted him like her own son. I know comes April 2007, it will be a very very sad departure, after 3 years with Aces Family.

Anyway, i know it is time for me to learn to be independent. I see a lot working mothers handling well without maid, so i do hope when times come, i can make it or rather "JUST DO IT" !!

Looking forward to another enjoyable weekends ahead !!

Sleepless Nights...

Anthea was having Fever for the last 2 days.

On Monday, i brought her to the doctor and she was given MC for a day. She rested at home. Lao ma came over and helped me to look after her, so that Siti can fetch Anders from the school, in the evening. During the day, after taking medication, her temperature was normal.

At night, her fever went up to around 38 degree celsius. So, need to keep sponging her to keep the temperature down. Throughout the nights, the sponging kept going on. With in between small naps for me.

On Tuesday, i was quite exhausted. During lunch, i went for a quick swim at the Toa Payoh Swimming complex which is near my working place. The swim helped me to regain some of my energy. I know when i feel tired due to stressed, exercise always help.

Now, Anthea fever's has gone and she is back to her usual self again. Felt that the 2 sleepless nights were worth it.

Motherhood is a Package Deal - you name it - Worries, Stress, Happy, Anger, Love etcs, it is all in it.

Just heard the GOOD NEWS from Uncle Terence from London : Cherry has ACCEPTED his wedding proposal. The proposal took place on Tower Bridge -

Terence email : "Why Tower bridge? A bridge to signify the link between the 2 of us, just like the Tower bridge has connected the 2 embankments so strongly for so many years. "

So ROMANTIC....

BIGGEST CONGRATS to Terence and Cherry...Another Major Mile stone in the Tan Family.

Fun Filled Weekends

Saturday, 20 January 2007 - Celebrated Siti's Birthday

In the morning, we brought the 2A's junior for their haircuts. Bought a piece of Princess raincoat for Anthea at the market.

As this will be Siti's finall birthday celebration with the Aces family, we decided to treat her to a good one. I booked a dinner table for 6 adults and 2 children at Bistro Indulgz. (got to know this via Xiaxue Blog, so thought of giving it a try. http://www.indulgz.com/index.htm)

The food was delicious and ambience also not too bad. Only thing is mom complained the music is too loud...hee : P

We had a small birthday cake for Siti and i bought her a pair of ear-rings from SK. She also received red-packets for Dad & Mom, and Eve as well. Small gesture but it is a very happy moment for Siti. She was all smiled.

To find a maid is not easy and to get a good one is like touching lottery. We have been very lucky to have touch this lottery and we have never taken it for granted. The ACES family brithday wish for her - May she has a Blessed and wonderful life ahead with her husband to be and family.

After dinner, we went to Bugis Junction for ice-cream and the 2 A's had a good time, as usual.

Sunday, 21 January 2007 - Gatherings

In the morning, the sun was very sunny and nice. I brought Anders to the pool and he enjoyed swimming using his new float.

After swimming, we went back home. Anders had his lunch and then took his nap. Adrian and myself attended Jimmy Koh's daughter 1 Year Old luncheon. His daughter name is Eunice Koh. Looking at her growing, time really seem to have fly passed...hee : P Like what adrian said - Things are moving and i am looking forward to the 2 A's coming 5th & 3th birthdays..plan..plan...plan..!!!

We went back to rest after lunch. Dinner was at dad's 3rd sister place. We called her as 三 Gu. Her son owned a 4 storey bunglow, somewhere near Bukit Timah road. The house is very very BIG with a swimming pool. Dinner was buffet. Food was good and importance thing is to see all the relatives. Everyone was happy.
Anthea was running a mile fever, so after dinner, we headed home straight. Siti cooked her some porridge which she finished a big bowl because she was hungry as she can't eat much at the buffet. I fed her with paracetemol and kept sponging her till her temperature reached normal. I think she had too much french fries for this week...so heatiness is cosing her the fever.
Hope she will recover real soon and enjoy life when Uncle Louis is back in SG this week.

Thanks God it's Friday...

Wow..finally it's the Friday !!

With Anders starting childcare, i am really looking forward to weekends to spend times with him and Anthea. He is still going through a fair bit of mood swing, at times making it very hard for me to tolerate it. I felt a bit guilty for being angry but i really feel so loss and don't know what to do.... : (
Maybe must start to take an anger management course.

I am actually quite impressed with NTUC Childcare management system. They actually provide parents a login password to their website. From there, i can find all the payments concerning the fees etcs. Also in the children communication books, each of the teacher in charge has an email address for parents to contact them for any feedbacks. Compared to the old childcare, this is definitely a vast improvement, in term of communications.

The rest will take times for me to judge as the days progressed but till today, i am quite happy.

GOOD NEWS....Eve's baggage is found and heard that they had been delivered right to the doorsteps... : )
(with her present condition, i would says it is a blessing in disguise)

So far...so GOOD..

This is the 2nd week of childcare life for Anders. Thanks to all the concerns of family members and friends, i am happy to say that he is settling quite well up till today. Likewise, Anthea is also enjoying a lot in the new childcare.

On Monday and Tuesday, when siti and myself left Anders, he cried a fair bit. Today when we left him, he was willing to be carried by the teacher with a bit of tears in his eyes. Very soon, he quiet down and sat by the teacher's lap.

Teacher's feedback - mentioned that Anders is actually a very bright and clever boy. He was able to do his colouring very well, compared to his peers...hee : )

All this while he has been very active and happy in doing art work and we does alot of colorings and drawings at home. I guessed this must have helped him to be able to do his work well in school. Nontheless, important thing is for him to enjoy himself during school and LOVE his friends and teachers.

For Anthea, i am happy that she is enjoying every moment in school. Most importantly, she is finishing her meals... : )

Oh...Aunty Eve is back in Singapore since Monday, but we have no time to catch up with her yet. I think she would need more rest and recover from any jetlag.

Well, the 1st sms i received from her is that she arrived well but LOST HER LUGGAGE. This is a record for me. Having been in the travel industry for so many years, lost baggages is a common thing but this is the 1st Time that it happened in my our family...hee : P
(*oops...hope this is one & only time... * )

Guess which airlines she was on???....Continental connecting SQ.....surprised !!! Think it must be lost in transit. Well, hopefully, she can get her luggage back soon because all her maternity clothings are in it.

Looking forward to another great weekends to spend quality time with the children.

Rainy and lazy weekends

Saturday, 13 January..

It has been raining since Friday and weather was very cold and nice. In the morning after breakfast, we brought Anthea and Anders to Thomson Plaza. The 2 main purpose is to go to the self laudry to dry the towels and some clothings, also to stock up groceries from the NTUC. The Hypermart is AMK is simply too BIG and not very ideal when you have children in toll.

The Dryers in the laudrette was fully booked and the person in charge said it will take some hours, so i decided that will bring back to air dry.

We shopped in the NTUC and also walked around the plaza. The children always enjoyed sitting on those rides..even though we did not put any coins into the rides.

After lunch, the children napped and the weather was really really nice.

Dinner was with Dad,mom and Terence at Guan Hin Teochew restaurant at Whampoa West. It is a small family restaurant and served very authentic and delicious teochew food.

After dinner, we brougth Anders to the AMK Garden MacDonald to enjoy life. Anthea follow ye-ye and nai nai to 716 where Terence get ready for his flight to Manchester. He will be in Europe for 4 weeks, leisure cum work. Cherry is also in Europe for about the 2 weeks plus. They will be touring around.

We brought Anders home after MacDonald and met up with the rest and set for Changi Airport. Terence's flight departs around 11.55pm, so we went to Airport for a cuppa and desserts.

All the best to Terence on his "Operation Hardrock" and we look forward to hearing good news from Europe in about a week time.

Sunday, 14 January

For the 2 days, it has been relaxing for anders and i want him to forget about the stress. As it was raining, we could not do much outdoor event, so we played puzzle/toys at home and do colorings. He enjoyed himself and i hoped that next week, he will be able to adapt better.

Anthea and Anders are looking forward to Aunty Eve's homecoming. Eve is scheduled to arrives on Monday morning around 6am. Likely, we will have chance to meet up in the evening if she is not suffering from jetlag.

As Eve is back in SG, she will need the laptop to keep in touch with Louis, who is still in USA. We returned the Eve's laptop to 716. So now Aces Family is really "Lap-topless"...hee .. : P

我爱 Anthea....

Finally it's Friday and i am looking forward to the weekends. I want to spend more quality time with Anders and Anthea, hopefully, this is slowly reduces Anders's Stress of going to school.

On Thursday, i brought both to school as usual and sat with them during assembly. Two of anthea's classmate came and sat next to her. Both of them are boys, names are Han Yong and Xavier New. I was observing them and i noticed that Han Yong was looking at Anthea and smiling very sweetly. Suddenly he said "我爱 Anthea". I was a bit surprised with his sudden expression and just smiled at him. Then Xavier also said "我 ye 爱 Anthea". Then i realised that this 爱 is referring to their kiddy's kind of concern for one another. I think i must start to think like children when talking to them. Otherwise, i will not be able to understand their language.

For the last 2 days, Ander's teacher feedback that Anders is getting better each day in school but it will still take a while for him to really settle down.

Deep in my heart, i know that both anthea and anders will settle well in the new environment. Every night - my hope is : Tomorrow will be better.

(Dear Darlings, mommy will always be there for the 2 of you. Be strong and we will achieve another milestone together as ACEs. I LOVE You )

I don't want to go School....

Today is the 6th day of since anders started going to childcare.

Each day, he will come and tell me..."mommy, i don't want to go school"...

For the last 2 days, i left them in the childcare and set off for work. On Monday, he was alright, even said "good bye" to me when i left for work. On Tuesday, i left them while they were happily playing with the toys in school. Today, he cried when i left him. I felt the pain but i know it is a norm and have experienced this when anthea started childcare back then.

For the last 2 days during lunch time, Siti will go by the childcare to keep anders companied as this was adviced by the childcare. But from observation made by Siti, she mentioned that the teacher kept taking care of the 'old' kids who are already quite seasoned to the school. As for the new kids, they don't seem to want to take care of them.

So last evening, i called the centre and feedbacked this observation and today, they seem to pay more attention to anders and other new kids. Well, as the teachers are the kid's point of comfort contact, they must be able to set the kid on ease and slowly let them adapt.

For anthea, so far she is enjoying the new school and heard that she ate 4 pieces of cheesecake for teabreak yesterday and also she finished all her veggies during lunch... : )

For anders, he is going through the separation anxiety phase so his behaviour at home is changing a little :

a. Easily agitated
b. Cried at every little thing
c. very sticky to me

Well, understanding that he is going throught a lot of stress, i will try to give him lots of Love and Reassurances. Hopefully, my little "soldier" will overcome this phase really soon.

(Noticed that when a child goes to childcare or start school, it is always the mother's time to be stressed and worried. I have been through this once and now twice...asked me for 3rd time, i will say "thanks but no Thanks!!" )

Angus's 5th Year Old Birthday

On Sunday, 07 Jan is Angus Kok 5th year old birthday. Angus is the son of Cindy Ling, one of my bestfriend since AMK Secondary. He was borned in the same year as anthea, January 2002.

Cindy & Dave hold a birthday party in their Springdale Condominium's function room. Aces family were invited for the party.

We reached Cindy's place around 1pm and they were still busy with the decorations and balloons. We started with the buffet lunch. After lunch, both anthea and anders started to play around with the balloons with Angus. They really enjoyed bouncing all around.. : )

Meanwhile friends and relatives arrived, there were quite a handful of children. Cindy prepared some art and craft materials and the children started to hands on. It was a very simple and interesting craft.
- a small photo frame
- small alphabets
- small decoratives items
- shinning materials
- glue

The idea is to glue the small items on the photo frame and then bring it back as souvenior. Anthea managed to make one using her name and she was very happy.

At around 2 pm, there was a Funnyman show which Cindy specially invited for the event. The clown cum magician was very entertaining and kept the children very happy. Anthea enjoyed herself very much for the 1 hour show, anders was happily laughing away as well.

Then at 3pm, it was the cake cutting ceremony and Angus had this BIG POWER RANGERS cake. After the cake we went home.

Both anthea and anders were totally worn out, they slept from 4.30 pm to about 7pm. We decided to do dinner at home, so i went to da-bao food from the S-11 near the AMK Hub.

Overall, it was a Fun Filled day for the Aces Family.

First 3 Days in Childcare

Last 3 days were tiring but enjoyable days for me. I was on leaves for 3 days as the children started school.

Day 1- Wednesday, 03 January 2007.

Anthea - i was with her in her K1 class to ensure she was ok. Lesson starts with morning assembly after breakfast. Then Chinese lesson with the Chinese teacher, 罗老师. After lesson, the children went outdoor for 1/2 hour outdoor play. They returned to class after the outdoor session. After cooling down, it was shower time. Anthea was taught to bath herself, which was quite an eye-opener for me. After bathing, the English teacher told them a story before lunch. Lunch was spaghatti with tomatoes based sauce with tau kwa, peas & corns, eggs. I think it was good as anthea finshed her lunch in a swift and she said it was delicious.

Anders - Siti was with him in the playgroup and she said he was ok, playing with all the toys and cooking set.

We went home after lunch and Day 1 ended well.

Day 2 - Thursday, 04 January 2007

Anthea - left her on her own in the K1 class and i observed that she managed pretty well.

Anders - i was with him the whole day, think it will take a while for him to get used to as this is his 1st time aways from us, Separation anxiety will sure to happen. The other area of concern is his mandarin. At home, anders is less exposed to mandarin,so when the teacher speak to him in mandarin, he had problems understanding...hopefully, he can pick up this language in school.

Day 3 - Friday, 05 January 2007

Anthea - she is well settled and at the end of the day, she told me she likes the new school very much. When i asked her why, she said she likes the English Teacher. I am not sure of her name yet but she looks very stern and i think it is good for the children.

Anders - he cried when i left him a while and i know that this was expected. Just need to keep reassuring him that i will be back to fetch him at certain times. I am glad we started him early so comes April when siti goes back Indonesia, he will be well settled, i hope.

I met a mother whose 2 daughters also started same time as the 2 A's junior. She kept asking me a lot of questions :

- "think they don't teach the children anything"
- "think they have more chinese teachers than english, not good for the children."
- "do you know the K1 syllabus ? U mean you only chose because of location ?"
- "teacher don't teach han yu pin yin"?

After all her questions, then i realised that i am not so concerned on all these issues as a mother. So is it a sign to indicate i am not a good mother?

My thinking is i want Anthea and Anders to grow up in a happy environment and not a STRESSED one, for sure. As a childcare centre, i know they will prepare the children well enough for their next stage of formal education. Of course, being a parent, we also have to responsibility to guide them along with their studies. Most important, to become a good and useful person... : )

Next week, i will be returning to work, so hopefully anders can settled well in school. Luckily for me, Siti is around to help me with the transition.

I bought a set of Power Rangers pyjamas for anthea and anders. These few days, they are happily wearing them at bedtimes.

School Start Tomorrow...

Today is still a Public holiday - off in lieu for Hari Raya Haji which falls on Sunday.

For breakfast, we had mixture of home baked chicken pie, Bengawan solo Panda Kaya cake (courtesy of Eve's voucher) and toast with Tuna spread.

After breakfast, we went swimming with the 2A's junior as the sun was very sunny. Our neighbour's son also joined us to the AMK swimming pool. Both anthea and anders had a great time playing with the Gor Gor at the pool. While adrain watched over them at the children's pool. I managed to swim a few laps in the adult pool. It was a good swim and also exercise since we had been enjoying so much good food for the last few days.

Lunch was simple as we had some leftover pizzas. Had a good power nap after the morning regime.

Dinner was with lao pa, lao ma and da-ge at Hong Kong Street at AMK Blk 421. During dinner da-ge expressed keen interest in buying a unit in the same Block as Louis and Eve, so now we have 2 potential interested buyers for this Block...hee : P

Anthea decided that she wanted to join yeye, nainai, Terence and Cherry to East Coast Park for cycling and roller blading. So she had dinner with them.

Tomorrow will be 1st day of childcare for anders and for anthea, 1st day at new childcare. I will be with them for the next few days to ensure that both can get used to the new environment. This is the begining of another chapter for the Aces family and as usual, i prayed that the transition will be smooth.

New Year Day

In the morning, i went to visit my ex-colleague from IATA, Suzanna Ong, at East Shore hospital as she delivered her baby boy, Russell Cheong. Russell is a big baby weighing at 4.174kg. I think nowsaday bewborns are getting bigger and bigger in sizes, guess the mommies are eating well.

We also visited adrian's buddy's wife on Sunday at Mt.Elizabeth, as she delivered to a healthy baby girl, name is not known yet as both Ong and Pauline are still deciding..hee : )
Baby weighs at 3.7kg.

We had lunch at the Eunos hawker and after that came home to power nap.

Dinner was at 浦东 restaurant in Balmoral Plaza. Dad, mom, Terence, Cherry and the Aces family were together for the 1st dinner of 2007. We had the special fish soup, 小龙包. veggie, a stewed pork and noodles. The food was delicious and the family enjoyed it. After dinner, we went for dessert and anthea wanted a pizza, so we went to order a Juliana from Spizza and had it at Waffle Town, where we had waffles with ice-cream, coffee and tea. IT was another memorable moment with the family and we were even discussing about reunion dinner for February 2007. This family is really one that planned ahead... : )

Happy New Year.
